SustaiN Society

The Society of Sustainable Future for Human Security (hereafter referred to as the SustaiN Society) was established in Kyoto on 22 November 2012. It is a professional organization consisting of experts, academics, practitioners, and policymakers who are united by a shared commitment to advancing human security through sustainable development. The society is founded on the belief that the most pressing challenges to a sustainable future cannot be effectively addressed through fragmented or discipline-specific approaches. Instead, SustaiN Society promotes inter-disciplinary collaboration across six main fields: Energy and Environment, Sustainable Tropical Forest, Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Built Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Resilience, and Social, Economy, and Political Dimensions of Sustainability.

One of the flagship activities of the SustaiN Society is the annual International Conference on Sustainable Future for Human Security (SustaiN Conference) held in Kyoto. Over the past several years, the conference has successfully brought together more than 500 participants from over 26 countries, including researchers, students, and professionals from various disciplines. The conference has also benefited from the support of more than 30 expert reviewers who have contributed to maintaining academic quality and fostering meaningful exchange, both in online and onsite formats. Moving forward, the SustaiN Society aims to further expand these activities and elevate the scope and impact of its global academic and professional network.

All participants of the SustaiN Conference are warmly invited to become members of the SustaiN Society. Membership offers opportunities for continued collaboration beyond the annual conference, including participation in research initiatives, policy dialogues, and publication efforts. We hope that your support will extend not only to the conference itself but also to the broader mission of the SustaiN Society in promoting sustainable human security.

In addition, the SustaiN Society now publishes the International Journal of Sustainable Future for Human Security (J-SustaiN). This peer-reviewed journal provides an inter-disciplinary platform to discuss complex sustainability and human security challenges, recognizing that many of these issues cannot be addressed through isolated, single-discipline approaches. J-SustaiN welcomes contributions from scholars and practitioners across sectors, encouraging innovative thinking and collaborative solutions.
